Dear Pastors and Praying Friends,
On Christmas Eve, we received some wonderful news. We got word from John Walz, a VBM teammate serving in Taiwan, that his first church plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Compass Baptist Church, is now qualified to invite/sponsor missionaries to come to Taiwan. This is an answer to prayer as we need this invitation to get our paperwork to enter Taiwan and serve in the Tolson’s ministry for a couple of years before heading to mainland China. Thank you all for praying with us for this sponsorship—we greatly appreciate your prayers!
This great news, however, was unfortunately followed up around a week later with the news that Taiwan is once again temporarily closing its borders to international travelers after recently discovering a few new coronavirus cases within its borders. While this was a huge discouragement, we trust that the Lord has a plan even in this. A Taiwanese office here in the States has requested that visa applicants reach out in March to check the status of these temporary restrictions. Lord willing, Taiwan will once again be accepting applications at that time and allow us to obtain our visas to leave for the field. Please join us in praying for an open door in Taiwan soon.
We would once again request that you continue to ask the Lord to open up mainland China’s borders to foreigners. Over the last month or so, multiple Chinese cities have been facing severe lockdowns related to coronavirus that in some cases involve authorities not allowing people to leave their apartments and homes. The Chinese people need the hope of the gospel! They need the peace of Christ in these stressful times! Please pray that the Lord would open its borders once again very soon so that missionaries could return and preach unto them Jesus.
