“And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.”
Despite the sinfulness of Moses, despite the sinfulness of the priests, and despite the sinfulness of Israel, the Lord is a God of mercy who spoke with them from off the mercy seat. God, though holy and hating sin, is also full of mercy and prescribed offerings for the people to offer Him. While these offerings cannot take away sin, they point to the One Sacrifice that would die for the sins of the world and extend His mercy around the globe.
Lord, thank You for Your mercy toward us. Thank You that You made a way for us to commune with You, to hear from You. Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ, and the mercy that we have found in Him. Help me to proclaim that mercy around the world. Amen.
